Hello guys...I hope that you are doing well as I am.
So let's get started..
Five Tips For Maintaining Mental Health In College
There are few things more stressful than being a college student. Not only do you have to worry about maintaining high grades and making the right decisions in classes.
But you also have to deal with school-related stressors like essays, exams, and finals, not to mention all of the social pressures that come with meeting new people, dating new people, and partying just like everyone else.
It’s an exciting time in your life, but it can also be
extremely taxing on your mental health – that’s why it’s important to take care
of yourself and maintain good mental health practices throughout your college
career.
Exercise
It’s no secret that exercise is one of, if not THE best thing you can do for your mental health. Exercise releases chemicals in your brain that leave you feeling calm and relaxed after a workout.
You should try to get some kind of exercise at least three times a week - make it fun! Whether it's running, yoga, or weightlifting, be sure to make time to keep your body healthy. The benefits far outweigh any difficulties you may encounter along the way!
Remember, getting started is always the hardest part.
Sleep
Think it’s impossible to get eight hours of sleep when you have a million things to do and seemingly no time to spare?
Think again. Set aside your work for 15 minutes each night before bedtime and power down your phone, tablet, and computer. Find some quiet space with no distractions (if you live in a dorm, we hear that locking yourself in the bathroom while you get ready for bed works wonders).
Count backward from 100 by 3s, take deep breaths,
and tell yourself that everything will be okay tomorrow.
Healthy Meals
Eating healthy meals is essential for maintaining your mental health in college. Make sure to eat at least one meal a day in a communal space and, if possible, with people you know.
Not only does spending
time with friends and family help you feel less alone during an often isolating
experience, but it also encourages good conversation and builds community—which
is crucial for getting through college.
Utilize campus resources
On-campus resources are always a great place to start when looking for support. From counseling services to religious organizations, there are many options available on campus (or nearby) that will provide you with help as needed.
Many colleges have free confidential counseling services through their offices of student affairs/activities; often these services are underutilized by students but are still available when needed most.
Going to school can be stressful, but luckily many colleges have a variety of services and resources that can help you get through your time in school.
Make sure you
know where these are so that if you ever need them, they’re just a short walk
away. Being familiar with campus resources helps reduce stress because you
won’t feel like there’s no one to turn to when things go wrong.
Staying social
Studies show that healthy relationships are crucial to our physical and mental well-being.
That’s why it’s important to maintain strong connections with friends and family, either in person or through technology.
Without strong social networks, you might feel lonely and isolated—which can
impact your mental health. You also may lack support when you need it most.
