Number One: Cambridge University

Cambridge is a collegiate public research university in Cambridge, England. Founded in 1209 and granted a Royal Charter by King Henry III in 1231, Cambridge is one of the oldest universities in the world and its history, and of its many notable alumni is a major contributor to both popular culture and national identity. 

The University grew out of an association of scholars who left Oxford after a dispute with townsfolk. These dissident scholars moved to nearby Cambridge where they established what would become one of Europe's most prestigious universities.

 
Number Two: Massachusetts Institute of Technology

When you combine its strong reputation with sky-high tuition and fees (more than $20,000 a year), it’s no surprise that MIT ranks second on our list. Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, MIT specializes in science and engineering education.
